It would seem that the Senior Cardinals have come to a turning point in their season. Sweeping a double header against the best that the PBL has to offer will undoubtedly bring a new confidence to the Abbotsford squad as they seek to climb back out of the PBL basement and become true contenders for the playoffs. They will get a chance to prove that this was not a one-off event as they travel to North Delta on Tuesday to start another 4 game road swing. Their next home games are June 25 and July 1, both 7 pm starts.

After a frustrating week of near misses, the Abbotsford Cardinals finally halted a 7 game losing streak, sweeping their double header Sunday afternoon while hosting White Rock at Delair Park. That was no small accomplishment given that the Tritons have dominated the PBL through the season, finally surrendering first place to the Langley Blaze this week. Meanwhile the Cardinals, fighting for playoff contention, had a challenging week with 6 games in 5 days all against “top 4” team in the PBL. Their long slide in the standings began May 10 and between then and Sunday, the Abbotsford Premier team had lost 14 of 15 games. Disheartening though those numbers look, the Cards knew that they were in for a challenge going into the last few weeks. Battling a serious shortage of manpower in their bullpen due to injuries and a bad case of cold bats, their problems were compounded by a schedule that had them facing the top 4 teams in the PBL repeatedly in 13 of 17 games.

May

The Abbotsford Cardinal are looking for silver linings in their cloudy skies.  At first glance, this recent period of baseball would seem to provide little sense of encouragement for the local squad from the Premier Baseball League, however all is not as it might appear.  First, they are on what is arguably the hardest stretch of home games during the entire league schedule.  Facing a series of games against the three top seeded teams in the league, the Cards knew that it would be an uphill battle – some pundits predicting a series of lopsided blowout games for the visiting teams.  Combining that with a bullpen plagued by injuries and one might find great hope in simply making the visitors sweat a bit.
